NS GUNNING CLUB MEMBER
$10,000
Join the exclusive NS Gunning Club in support of the World’s Greatest Football Club.
Dr Gunning was an inaugural inductee to life membership at the Blacks in 1952. His name is, of course, ascribed to the A grade best and fairest medal. The sense of honour attached to receiving this award has as much to do with its donor’s history as it does to the club’s history and the history of its recipients over the years. Dr Gunning first donated and presented this award in 1927.
Dr Gunning commenced at the Blacks in 1922. He was an outstanding player, either at full forward or full back. He played intervarsity football throughout his Blacks’ playing career (1922-1926), was vice-captain of the club in 1926, and received a University ‘Blue’ in 1923 followed by an Australian ‘Blue’ in 1926. He represented the State in the inaugural state amateur game in 1925, and again in 1926.
In 1923 and 1924 Dr Gunning was club Secretary. Later, he held the position of President from 1937 until 1946. Dr Gunning was an inspirational early leader of the club and served with distinction both as an outstanding player and administrator.
NS Gunning Club members receive the following benefits:
– Tax deductible receipt for you or your company.
– Permanent recognition of your support via a honour board at University Oval.
– Regular correspondence in the form of the weekly Blacks newsletter, “The Substandard”.
– Free ticket to the very famous long lunch in the year after your contribution made.
– Permanent recognition on our web site.
What We Do Best
The AUFC has a long and proud history, with over 100 years on the field
We are highly Successful
The Blacks have an unsurpassed record in Australian amateur football history. 84 flags (including 28 in Division 1) are a testament to that.
We promote Diversity
We are a proud part of the Adelaide University sporting community, however, membership is not confined to those studying at the UOA. All are eligible and all are welcome!
We are a Community
We find that those who come to the club inevitably stay: the world’s greatest football club does tend to provide a rather compelling environment. It is a place where you make friends for life.
We are committed to the fine principles of University Sport
In particular our Constitution demands that we play for no remuneration other than the joy that comes with playing for the love of the game. Everybody at the Blacks is treated equally.’
We like the Social Life
“If winning is all there is, we want no part of it”, a phrase famously coined by AUFC living legend, Chocka Bloch. Chocka once also described the footy club as “a social club loosely based around football”.

Who else references 2 club legends, beer, ginger wine and general fitness levels?…it has a losing song. The support we have received from our sponsors, members and past players over the last few years has been truly magnificent and it is hugely appreciated by us and especially by the Treasurer.
As you may appreciate the cost of putting ten senior football teams, including three women’s teams, on the park each week has risen dramatically over the last few years, with items such as medical equipment, physios, SAAFL calls, umpires etc all posing a large financial impost on the club on a weekly basis.
Not only have the funds raised through the membership drive allowed us to meet these higher costs but they have also enabled us to keep player subs at a reasonable level relative to other clubs..
