BEQUESTS

Many people care deeply about the Adelaide University Football Club.

“The Blacks” have meant so much to so many people since 1906.

“The Blacks” do more than play games of footy each weekend. We also play a pivotal role in assisting young men and women to become the best they can be both in sport and in life. One way that you can ensure that this work continues is to leave a bequest for the club in your Will. A bequest is when you make a gift of your personal property to a person or organization.

Some of the ways in which you can do this include:

Proportion
The most adaptable form of a bequest is a proportion or percentage of your estate. By using this kind of bequest you need not worry about the effects of inflation or changes in the size of your estate.

Specific Sum
A specific bequest of money is simple but it can reduce in value over the years due to inflation, and it remains fixed despite any increase or change in the value of your estate.

Property
A specific bequest of property is one that nominates property, works of art, stocks and shares or insurance policies.

Residue
After you have made adequate provision for your family you may wish to leave the residue to the Adelaide University Football Club.

Suggestions for suitable clauses include:

“I give and bequeath the residue of my estate of whatsoever kind and wheresoever situated to the Adelaide University Football Club Incorporated (ABN 87 299 322 696), (c/o Adelaide University Sport. Ground Floor, George Murray Building, University of Adelaide SA 5005), and I direct that receipt by the General Manager for the time being of the said Adelaide University Football Club, shall be a sufficient discharge by my Executor/s.”

OR:

“I give and bequeath unto the Adelaide University Football Club (ABN 87 299 322 696), the registered office of which is c/o Adelaide University Sport. Ground Floor, George Murray Building, University of Adelaide SA 5005 the sum of X dollars and I direct that receipt by the Manager for the time being of the said Adelaide University Football Club, shall be a sufficient discharge by my Executor/s.”

You should discuss the various types of bequests with your solicitor, who can ensure the correct clause is entered into your Will.
